The Replacements - SNL (Saturday Night Louse) poster

On January 18th, 1986, The Replacements were the musical guests on Saturday Night Live. I don’t think Loren Michaels or the folks at 30 Rock were prepared for the unpolished, loud, raw, rock and roll that the band brought with them. They certainly weren’t into Paul Westerberg telling Bob Stinson “C’mon fucker!” when the solo came up. The band were yelled at and banned from the show. Bob Stinson drunkenly fell on his guitar on the way to the stage and snapped the neck (G.E. Smith came through with a replacement for him.) The band grew in legend over the years. (Bob Mehr’s incredible Trouble Boys authorized biography is a must have for any Mats or music fan)

I can’t put into words how tickled I am that we made this. When I first saw a photo of the poster around 20 years ago online, I really wanted one. Since they didn’t exist (kinda), I figured we’d have to make them. The incredibly talented Brian Walsby recreated the poster from a photo for us. He did an incredible job. Check him out on Facebook, Instagram and his homepage and buy some of his work.

here are the specs -

  • 3 color silkscreened

  • French Paper #80 white speckletone

  • limited numbered edition of 200
