J Mascis - San Francisco Nov. 15th, 2014 @ The Independent

J Mascis is one of the truly groundbreaking artists of his generation. I was lucky enough to find him in 9th grade a little while before Green Mind was released. After that I was a fan for life. His songwriting and guitar playing are on a level that others just can’t touch. To see him (or Dinosaur Jr) live is to have your mind blown! To be asked to do a poster for him was a huge honor for us. We hope you like it too.

As for the design, we’ve been wanting to do some posters that are an homage to the pioneers who gave us what would become the modern gig poster. These are some of the people who inspired us in the first place to want to make gig posters in the first place. Since the majority of these artists were working out of San Francisco and doing tons of posters for SF promoters like The Family Dog and Bill Graham, we want to pay tribute to them when we do a SF area poster and it fits. For this particular poster we thought Victor Moscoso’s 1966 poster for the Grateful Dead’s Christmas time run at The Avalon Ballroom for The Family Dog. We also used Mr. Moscoso’s font for the website information at the bottom of the poster. We have many more planned in the future. Stay with us.
